Unusual yet practical novelty seed planting system.

Supplied in a carrot orange card envelope with a tear off strip to open, each pack contains 6 varieties of vegetable seeds presented in a novel "matchbook" format which apparently makes homage to a system developed in the 1890s.Not something I've see before and, as I am generally all fingers and thumbs with seeds and most seem to end up between cracks in the paving or blown to the four winds, I thought I'd request these out of sheer curiosity. The concept is simple, tear off a matchstick, plant to the depth shown in the simple instructions on each matchbook and wait for results. Simple right? Each book contains instructions and expected germination times. It's estimated each book contains around 30 seeds - in my review sample around half a dozen from various packs had come adrift from their moorings and were loose in the card envelope.I was going to be a little sniffy about the cost of these as it works out to roughly 5p per seed, but having looked at the cost of conventional seed packs I decided these aren't bad value after all. One thing that would really, hugely improve the design is if the matchsticks had the variety printed on the stalk so you don't need to resort to additional labels. From the perspective of novelty value and the sheer ease of planting these would make a great gift pack for someone - the varieties are a little unusual too or, at least, not those I'm familiar with.Nicely presented, unusual and mostly practical - recommended.

Eco-friendly fully recyclable packaging and biodegradable seed sticks

❓WHAT I’VE USED IT FOR:I’m using these over the Easter break as a little gardening activity with my children.⏱️ HOW I’VE FOUND IT:✅ This is a great little veg garden starter seed set. There has been a lot of thought put into the selection of seeds and the variety can be enjoyed by the whole family - there are six bags containing a selection of seeds: 1. Heinz Tomato2. Nantes Carrot3. Green Sprouting Broccoli4. Rijnsburger Onion5. Red Lettuce6. Salad Rocket✅ I found these were really easy to plant. We set up little pots of peat free seedling compost and the kids carefully pulled apart the sticks and pressed into the soil to the indicated line. We really like watching these seed germinate and they’ve done well so far in our conservatory,✅ I really love that this pack comes in eco-friendly fully recyclable packaging and biodegradable plant sticks. The packaging is designed to fit through letterboxes so they won’t be transported to a collection depot.⛔️ I am disappointed that this doesn’t come with any instructions on how to plant and how often to water. Most importantly when to transplant them outside or to larger pots and how far and deep to replant. At £8.99 it is a little pricey for the 6 bags of 10 seed sticks in the set.⭐️ WHY STAR RATING:

Easy way to grow vegetables

I ordered these seed sticks as I liked the idea of simplifying growing vegetables and they did just that. They arrived in a letterbox size cardboard envelope, so there’s no worrying about being at home when they are delivered. There are 6 different vegetables in attractive and sturdy packets that look like a book of matches. The vegetable seeds are attached to the cardboard sticks inside and all you do is tear them apart and stick them in a pot of compost – simple...Each packet of seeds has 10 cardboard sticks with about 3 seeds stuck to each stick. You need to be careful not to dislodge the seeds when separating the sticks.I planted 1 of each vegetable variety about a week ago, in little pots on a heated mat. So far, 4 out of the 6 have germinated. The packets do say on some of them that it takes up to 10 days to germinate so I’m confident they will all grow. There are plenty and easy to follow instructions how to germinate the seeds, however, there are no instructions about what time of year to plant the seeds or what to do when they have germinated, which I think would have been helpful. I think it would also be easier to read the instructions if they were in a bigger font and not white on pale orange.Overall, I think this is a great way to grow seeds, there are enough seeds in each packet for a small vegetable garden and there is a good variety of easy to grow vegetables.

Fantastic seed kit, perfect for gifting

I love everything about this seed growing kit - the packaging looks really cute and attractive, making these perfect for gifting. They could not be easier to use - just poke each wee stick into a pot of earth, water and wait for it to grow. You get ten of each seed, and a really nice variety of six vegetables in this pack. I only planted them recently as the weather has taken a while to warm up, so yet to see any growth, but I'm confident they will sprout. These are well priced at £8.99 for the pack, and they're great for children or adults - the size of the pack also makes these perfect for popping in the post as a gift. I like the range of kits on offer, and I'm thinking of getting the meadow flower variety too. Really impressed with this seed kit, lovely design and range.

seedsticks

This is a review of 'Seedsticks Veggie Patch Vegetable Seed Growing Kit - 6 Vegetable Seed Varieties - Grow Your Own Tomato, Carrot, Broccoli, Onion, Rocket & Lettuce - Easy Planting Garden Gift for Beginners (Veggie Patch)'.This is a set of seed sticks. They're a really cool invention that makes it easy to sow seeds with no fuss or trying to pick up and separate tiny seeds. The seeds come stuck to small cardboard tabs and can be stuck into soil at the correct depth and watered before they germinate. I tried the tomato seeds first (heinz 1350 variety) and they were easy to use. I tore off the tabs before putting them about 1.5cm deep in seed trays. I kept them inside to germinate and they germinated within 5 days. The seedlings are growing well and look very strong and well spaced. Inside the packets there is information about each variety of seed.I think the seed sticks are a great idea for gardeners with mobility issues or those who like fuss free gardening. They're ready to use and only need to be stuck into the soil and watered. I love that I don't have to try and pick up and separate tiny seeds. Overall this is a great product and I'd use them again in the future.

Great idea, really convenient, would make a great gift

This is a great idea for young gardeners, maybe someone living in a flat or with limited space, or even as a gift that can be posted. Nicely presented. You get six different seed packs, each with 10 sticks – look a bit like packs of matches. You simply place the stick in a small pot with some compost or soil (the stick has a line on it to show you how deep you should put it into the soil), water lightly, and wait for germination.Ideal to get you going, and you have a good selection of vegetables you are actually going to use. Can be grown indoors, in a greenhouse, or outdoors once the risk of frost overnight has passed. Pot on when ready.I’d say they are perhaps slightly expensive at £8.99, price correct at time of review, but they are a fun and convenient way of growing your own vegetables. For first time growers, perhaps some more instructions on what to do once the seedlings appear would be helpful, and where to pot and place them. But overall, a solid four stars.
